| Don Britt |
Born in California, Don was raised in the coal mining town of Glace Bay, N.S. Drawn from a young age to the Arts, Don was a musician and entertainer with a passion for writing. He grew up in the United Church of Canada, where his talents found a natural outlet. In time, Don felt called to the ministry, a kind of 'born fit', which was readily affirmed by his church and community. After his studies at Acadia University and the Atlantic School of Theology, he was ordained in 1994. A decade of ministry as 'a white washed tomb' followed. As Don describes, "I spent ten years, preaching out of a kind of history book, as I called the Bible. Real miracles were for a bygone era, I thought. The language of myth and metaphor was used liberally, in forming the great stories of our faith. So I preached. So I believed. Until God changed all that. With a Sovereign touch from on high." That 'Sovereign touch' came a year and a half after Don walked away from the pulpit. He pursued his great passion, writing, with single minded intent, sure he would spend the rest of his days, scribbling like mad. But God had other plans. "The Lord Jesus Christ erupted into my life in a new and defining way. He raised me out of a drab and empty existence, into one imbued with the Spirit, and alive with the Promise of the Gospel." Don lives in Oxbow, Saskatchewan with his wife, Georgia, a paramedic, who is a precious gift from God. He is also the proud father of a twelve year old girl, Caley, who shares her father's passion for the Arts. Don and Georgia are members of Shekinah Christian Fellowship, part of the Life Builders Network. Don also ministers to an ex-United Church congregation in Frobisher, where he is honoured to proclaim the message of salvation, from God's most Holy Word. |
