We Are Called and Chosen to...

Jesus said that we are to go into all the world and share the night-and-day difference He has made in our lives (1 Peter 2:9 The Message). He has empowered us to do just this through the Baptism in the Holy Spirit.

Through the Baptism in the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8 and Acts 2:1-5) He has released a number of supernatural gifts in each and every believer who has been empowered through this experience (1 Corinthians 12: 4-11). These are to be used as we share with others about the love of God the Father as found only in Jesus Christ. As we share He will back our words spoken by His power that has been given by Him and received by us. In this way He will confirm His Word with power signs and wonders. He will also confirm that we are truly “ambassadors for Christ Jesus” (2 Corinthians 5:20) representing His Kingdom and working under His authority.

This is where things are heading. It was God’s original plan for His Church as seen in the book of Acts in the New Testament. It was lost as Church became an institution and an organization but is being restored by the Lord of the Church so that we can truly reach every nation with the full gospel - as Paul would say.

The full gospel is one of words and deeds. Paul states, ”by word and deed, by the power of signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God ... I have fully proclaimed the gospel of Christ.” (Romans 15:18-19) This is the calling on every believer. And, this is what the Lord Jesus is restoring to His Church today. He is working in the heart of every believer to bring them to the place where they will share His heart for both the lost and the original mandate of the Church - to reach them. Then they will reach out and speak to non-believers about the love they have already experienced.

Reaching the lost is what He would have each believer walk in on a daily basis. But, it will take faith. And, that is okay because we are called, as believers, to walk by faith simply believing that as we do God will work through us convicting unsaved people of sin, righteousness and judgment (John 16:8-11) - their sin, His righteousness and the coming judgment. This will bring godly sorrow with repentance which will lead them to salvation.
Our task - to believe and begin to share what Jesus is currently doing in our lives. This is of course an invitation to a daily adventure.

As leaders in born again, Spirit-filled churches we too need the Lord to work in our hearts. There is an old saying, “as the leader goes, so goes the people”. If we, as leaders, are not out daily sharing our faith with the lost then we cannot expect our people to be doing it. So, we need to ask the Lord to work in our hearts first - then work in the hearts of the people. We need to be out sharing the gospel with people - then share with our people on Sundays the stories of what happens (the good, the bad and the ugly) and invite them to join with you on the adventure. You may even need to take others out with you to show them how you do it and teach them how to share with the lost. This may mean you will need to have others train you personally first as many leaders in churches today have not effectively shared the gospel for many years and are totally out of touch with the methods that work today. The message (gospel) never changes but the methods used to share it do. So, leaders, do whatever it takes to be personally reaching out to the lost on a daily basis and then begin to share your experiences with others inviting them to join with you.

In my own personal life as a leader - this has meant some major changes in my priorities, my “office” schedule, the things I say ‘yes’ to and what I now say ‘no’ to. It has effected what I read, the way I preach, the things I talk about when with other believers. But, most important of all, it has effected the way I go about my daily life - the way I live my life - as I now schedule time to move slower through whatever activity I am doing (washing the car, grocery shopping, banking...) so that I have time to chat with people and swing conversations from the natural to the spiritual. And, it is amazing how often I have opportunity to share the love of God as found only in Jesus Christ.

As believers we are called and chosen to be ambassadors for Christ Jesus bringing the message of reconciliation as found in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. As leaders we are called and chosen by God to lead our people and teach them that they too are ambassadors and what that means as they “go into all the world...” and live their daily lives. However, you cannot lead others to do what you yourself are not doing.
