Thank You We wish to thank all those who have caught the vision and helped support us in our projects. Since September of 2005 we have raised close to $25,000.00. Many people have come up with creative fund raisers for the children of Uganda. We look forward to your continued support as we forge ahead to our goal of 700 orphanges. Please remember us and the children of Northern Uganda in your prayers. Gulu, Uganda Update: HARC in partnership with Hope for the Nations has two projects on the go: 1) Homes of Love: Homes of Love is a ministry located inside the municipality of Gulu on 3.5 acres of land. There are presently two homes on the property, Home of Love “Courage” and Home of Love “Victory”. These homes offer the children a safe and supportive environment in which to live. The majority of the children are orphans, although some children still have one parent living. In these cases the parent is unable to take care of their child, usually due to sickness (AIDS), and the child is considered “at-risk”. Children that are brought into the Homes of Love receive three meals a day, clothing, education, medical attention, and a good bed to sleep on in a loving and supportive home. All the children are strengthened daily through prayer and are given God’s love through His Word. This is the greatest and most effective source of their healing and attachment to their new family. Presently, each home, or family, has approximately 20 children. A house matron lives with the children and has the aid of an assistant and two helpers who live in nearby huts. The on-site staff become like the children’s mothers, uncles and aunts who minister to and mentor all of the children’s needs. Our pre-school children benefit from attending an on-site Nursery School whose teacher also lives on-site and is able to tutor those that need extra help. The remainder of the children attend a good nearby school. In addition, Homes of Love has an arts director who introduces the children to art, music, and drama. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SPECIAL PROJECTS AND NEEDS: PLAYGROUND: By regular donation or by one time gift you can help contribute towards building the children at Homes of Love a playground. The funds raised will used to purchase local building supplies and materials to make a safe, fun, place for the children to play and become children again. COST $500.00 USD GAZEBO: One of the dreams of the ministry of Homes of Love is to build an outdoor gazebo for the children. This would be a covered place where the children could sit outdoors and eat together. As well, it is a place where the children could gather to study and play. By regular donation or by one time gift you can help contribute towards this project. The funds will be used to purchase local building supplies, materials, and labor. COST $800.00 USD HUTS: One of the visions of Homes of Love is to have the workers live on site. This helps to create the precious family environment. Presently, there is a need for two more huts to be built for these workers to live on site. By regular donation or by one time gift you can help contribute towards this project. The funds will be used to purchase local building supplies, materials, and labor. COST $500.00 USD EACH - 2) Village of Hope for the child mothers of northern Uganda: Village of Hope is located inside the municipality of Gulu apart from the Homes of Love property. There are presently six homes on the property which will house women and children who have suffered under the LRA attacks. These homes will offer mothers and their children a safe and supportive environment in which to live. As many of these women are ill each family that is provided a home is also given a bicycle to help them travel. The families that reside at Village of Hope will benefit from an on-site school and medical clinic. In addition, Village of Hope endeavors to help give the women back a sense of their dignity and self respect. To do this our hope is to set up projects such as the craft skills program and the farm project. These projects will help the mother’s to take a hand up instead of a hand out. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SPECIAL PROJECTS AND NEEDS: FARM PROJECT: The hope of this project is to provide mothers with a sense of accomplishment instead of always receiving a hand-out. The farm project will help the villagers produce enough food to self-sustain and provide families with more nutritious food, including meat and dairy products. By donating to the farm project monthly or by one time gift you will help us to acquire animals, seed, farm equipment and supplies. Cost: Goats and Pigs (for breeding) = $100 each CRAFT SKILLS: By regular donation or by one time gift you can help by teaching the mothers at the homes skills that will help boost their self-esteem and learn a marketable trade. The funds raised for this project will be used to purchase sewing machines, fabric, thread, and tools needed for craft work. Cost: Sewing machine = $60 Fabric etc = $20 |
